Day 1: Over the Taurus Mountains to the Fairy Chimneys

We pick you up from your hotel at first light and meet our guide in the Antalya area. The first stop is breakfast high in the Taurus Mountains, at about 1,825 metres, with fresh mountain air and wide views. The road then continues across the Anatolian plateau via Konya and Aksaray to Nevşehir.

• Underground city: narrow tunnels, stables, kitchens and chapels carved several floors deep into the soft rock, where people once hid from raiders.
• Uçhisar and Ortahisar: photo stops at the highest point of the region and at the rock castle of Ortahisar.
• Pottery workshop: watch local masters shape red clay on the wheel, a craft that has been practised here for centuries.
• Çavuşin: walk through the abandoned rock village and see the Church of St John the Baptist, one of the oldest in Cappadocia.
• Secret Garden and Red Valley: a quiet break in the garden, then sunset over the Red Valley as the fairy chimneys turn deep orange.

In the evening we check in at the hotel and have dinner.

Day 2: Balloons at Sunrise and the Way Back

Cappadocia is at its most magical at dawn, when dozens of hot air balloons rise over the valleys. You can join a balloon flight, or follow the spectacle from the ground on a jeep safari to the best viewpoints. Both are optional; ask us when you book.

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• Devrent Valley, also called Imagination Valley, where the rocks look like animals and figures. Most people spot a camel.
• Anatolian stone centre and a local products shop for souvenirs, dried fruit and regional specialities.
• Lunch break in Konya on the way back, then the drive to your hotel in Antalya.

Is a Cappadocia Tour From Antalya Worth It?

Cappadocia is far from the coast, so a day trip leaves very little time on site. With one night in the region you see the landscape at the two best moments: sunset over the Red Valley and sunrise with the balloons. The volcanic tuff here was shaped by wind and rain into cones, pillars and valleys, and people carved houses, churches and whole cities into it. The Göreme area and the rock sites of Cappadocia are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
