Canyons Turkey
What is a Canyon and How Does It Form?
Canyons are deep valleys generally formed by rivers over time. Canyons, which can reach hundreds of meters in height, are mostly formed as a result of the erosion of hard rocks.
Water and stone particles that form the beds of streams erode the canyon walls, creating deep valleys.
Canyon formation generally occurs in three stages: erosion, transport, and deposition. First, the stones and sand in the stream bed erode the walls of the canyon. The eroded material is then carried by the stream, increasing the depth of the canyon. Finally, valleys are formed as the material carried by the stream accumulates in the lower parts of the canyon.
Canyons are often characterised by their natural beauty and attract tourists. One of the largest and most famous canyons in the world is the Grand Canyon carved by the Colorado River. Canyons are impressive geographical formations that reveal the power of nature and the effect of time.
